From Woods to Home: Two Local Homes Tour
Our beautiful woodlands provide a home to a wide variety of wildlife. They can also help people make a house and a home. Come visit two locally grown homes in Windsor and Worthington, MA, with a tour of their unique features by timber frame builder David Bowman.
These two houses are examples of how to put local wood into a house, using white pine, hemlock, birch, cherry and other native timbers. Each building offers different pathways and models. Learn about options of local wood to use and how to incorporate it into a home plan with a variety of priorities in mind:
- keeping things local
- reducing carbon footprint
- keeping costs low and the process economical
- increasing the beauty and aesthetic impact of a home
- creating something unique
- leaving a legacy for generations to come
Both homes offer examples of ways to make a beautiful home using local, natural materials.
David Bowman, a local sawyer and builder who has taught many workshops on timber frame construction will provide insight into the choice and wood selection for creating a timber frame house.
Please register for directions to the site locations. Tour will begin in Windsor and end in Worthington, with a short (10-15 minute) drive from first site to the second. Refreshments will be provided.
